Sustainable Tree Farming
We think sustainable tree farming is not only the right thing to do; it's also the right way to do business. Socially responsible forestry practices help us reduce reliance on natural forests and non-renewable energy sources. At the same time, our environmentally sustainable approach delivers the highest possible return for investors. With our own genetically superior plant material and sustainable silvicultural practices, our tree farms produce trees that grow faster and yield higher output than natural forests, and with less environmental impact.
Our managers, foresters and researchers have extensive experience in applying sustainable forestry practices, and their management approach is verified by third parties under a globally recognized process such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. This becomes a key differentiator for the wood markets supplied by our tree farms, making our wood products attractive substitutes in both hardwood and softwood specialty markets.
FSC certification
We at GreenWood Resources are fully committed to managing our tree farms within the principles and criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council. To ensure compliance, these farms undergo annual audits by FSC-accredited auditors. GreenWood's Boardman tree farm, for example, has been certified as a well-managed, sustainable plantation since 2001.
Sustainable forestry goals of tree farms managed by GreenWood Resources include:
- Growing high-yield, short-rotation trees for lumber and paper markets
- Creating biomass for the production of energy
- Treating waste water from municipal sewage through tree farm irrigation
- Supporting native species restoration in wetlands and riparian zones
