GreenWood Resources, new operator of the 17,000-acre tree farm near Boardman, has signed a non-binding letter of intent to supply poplar feed stock to ZeaChem Inc.

The long-term agreement is intended to support an initial 1.5-million-gallon-per-year cellulosic biorefinery ZeaChem plans to build at the Port of Morrow. Plant engineering already has started.

A new sawmill near Boardman will create steady jobs and environmentally friendly wood products, officials said Friday.

"It helps all of us in terms of the economy and helps all of us with the environment," Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury said at a ground-breaking ceremony for the Upper Columbia Sawmill on the Boardman Freeform.

Tree Farm Resources purchased the 17,000-acre tree farm, which used to be owned by Potlatch Corp., and combined it with its nearby Sand Lake Tree Farm for an approximately 23,000-acre plantation of poplar trees.

Today Governor Ted Kulongoski announced that The Collins Companies will begin construction of a new $35 million saw mill to process lumber from a 17,000 acre sustainable tree farm in the Boardman area. The farm was recently acquired by the GreenWood Tree Farm Fund (GTFF) and will be managed by GreenWood Resources of Portland.
